The academic secretariat is the body that assists the rector to implement his policies, the decisions of the senate and those of the university committees. In particular, the secretariat deals with the following:

• The Senate Office: concentration of the senate's academic committees
• The Academic Staff Division: academic faculty appointments and promotions; handling academic administration business, such as: sabbaticals/leaves of absence w/o pay, criteria etc.
• Research Students Section : handling doctoral students, post-doctoral students and maintenance of scholarships for graduate students
• Unit of Foundations and Grants: handling external foundations and scholarships
• Student and faculty disciplinary committees
• Consolidation of academic rules and regulations and handling amendments and changes.
